Abra's well of Pokemon knowledge

Game Boy Information

To have a good team you must have diversity, both of Pokemon and of moves. You probably want no more that two that are the exact same type. Psychic and Ice are good as they are super effective against many things and have relatively few weaknesses. Good moves are a must for any winning team. Many Pokemon can learn moves of very different types so you may be able to surprise your opponent. Keep in mind though that moves of the same type as the Pokemon using them are 50% stronger (except for normal). Poison is probably the worst type but the only poison TM, toxic is a good move. If you don't already know switching Pokemon causes toxic status to become normal poison and you can use that greatly to your advantage. For getting level ups I recommend not fighting the elite four but instead fighting wild Pokemon in Victory Road or the mansion on Cinnabar because they seem to get more stats per level that way. Also don't use Rare Candy because their stats won't be as high as if you raised them.

Card Game Information
A good deck should probably have no more than two energy types. Some have more and work okay but still I recommend no more than two. Also include many trainer cards as they can be very helpful and annoying to your opponnent (like ER and Super ER). Many people say not to try and cover your weaknesses because it weakens the overall deck structure but I have found that Psychic, Fighting, and Colorless work well together and cover their weakness. As a rule have no more than 28 Energy as well.
